Join us for the BUPA Great Birmingham Run
By pounding the city's pavements in the BUPA Great Birmingham Run, you could help speed up treatment for leukaemia patients
The University has joined with Birmingham based charity, Cure Leukaemia, to recruit 1,000 runners to raise £250,000. This will help treat patients like 41-year-old Karl Murphy, who ran the 13.1 miles last year just 4 weeks after undergoing a bone marrow transplant.
‘Without Cure Leukaemia, I would not be here now, in good health and living an active life,’ said Karl, who completed the 2013 run just four weeks after his transplant. ‘This is a charity that absolutely saves lives, but they need money to do it.’
Cure Leukaemia was founded by Charlie Craddock, Professor of Haemato-oncology at the University, clinician at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and Director of the Centre for Clinical Haematology, where patients are given access to the latest drug and transplant therapies. The close relationship between University research and hospital expertise ensures laboratory findings can quickly become real treatments for real patients.

People across the city will join together for the Birmingham Half Marathon on the 19th October, including Cure Leukaemia Trustee and Michelin-starred chef Glynn Purnell.

The BUPA Great Birmingham Run is the Midlands’ leading half-marathon and will take place this year on 19th October. Join our 1,000-strong team and run it as a personal challenge or why not get together as an office?
Walkabout on Broad Street will be hosting Birmingham's best post-race party for us, with the first drink and food provided to help celebrate your achievement after the run.

We will pay your entrance fee, send you a t-shirt to run in and a training plan, and ask you to raise a minimum sponsorship of £350, all of which will help save the lives of leukaemia patients all around the region.
