University ring road to close this weekend between sports centre and library

There is a need to close the University ring road in two different places in the coming weeks. These closures have been planned to ensure they do not clash with each other, and access via the northern part of the ring road is maintained while the southern part is closed, and vice versa, in order to lessen the impact on staff, students and visitors to campus.

This weekend, 19-20 July, the ring road will be closed between the Munrow Sports Centre and the Main Library to allow our contractors who are building the new library to carry out a number of operations. They plan to carry out several activities over this weekend to reduce the number of road closures they require.

Once that section of road re-opens, a section of ring road near to East Gate will close on Monday.

The bridge over the ring road from the Guild of Students to central campus is in need of repair, and we have appointed a contractor to carry out this work during the summer while traffic is at its lowest and most students are not on campus.

While the work is underway both the bridge itself and a section of the ring road will need to be closed. The work will begin on Monday 21 July and take approximately six weeks. The road and bridge will be closed from 21 July until Tuesday 2 September.

Diversions will be put in place for both pedestrians and vehicles and all University entrances will remain open. Vehicles will still be able to use the ring road around the north of campus and enter and exit via south gate at the recognised times.

We apologise for any inconvenience that these works will cause. We have tried to plan them in the summer vacation to minimise disruption. If you do have any particular issues, please do contact the Estates Office to see if we can work with you to mitigate against any problems.

Many thanks
