Disruption to IT Services - Updated

Dear Colleagues

You may be aware that late yesterday afternoon one of the contractors on site cut through a fibre optic cable.  This has led to the disruption of some phones, internet and related services.  Work has continued throughout the night to restore services.  All phone services have been restored along with teaching services, so teaching will be unaffected today.

Some specific locations and Wi-Fi are still affected but it is expected that most services will be restored during today. If you are experiencing problems please contact the IT Service Desk on 0121 414 7171 or www.itservicedesk.bham.ac.uk.

Over the next few days some of the services that have been restored may need further work to improve resilience.  This could mean that some services are interrupted but we will do everything possible to minimise this.

We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Update - Access to Wi-Fi (Wednesday 15 October)

Following the email yesterday about the disruption to internet access and related services, work has been ongoing and Wi-Fi services have now been restored across most of campus.  We anticipate that the last few buildings should have Wi-Fi by the end of the day.
