Assessing disproportionate burden

If you want to declare that fixing a particular accessibility issue is a disproportionate burden, you’re legally required to carry out an assessment.

Your assessment must include:

  • the benefits of making those things accessible
  • the burden that making those things accessible places on your organisation

You also need to think about:

  • the size and resources available to the University
  • the nature of the University (e.g. do we provide services aimed at people who are likely to have a disability?)
  • the cost of making something accessible and the impact that would have
  • how much users with a disability would benefit from you making things accessible

If you believe your site or app falls into this category contact the Accessibility Team, who can guide you on the next steps.
