Settling into University life is incredibly exciting, but it can also be challenging. So, with World Mental Health Day approaching on Friday 10 October, we’re looking at what support is available to you at UoB. In this edition:
- University support services
- Community support services
- Urgent support services

- Mental Health & Wellbeing Service: Offers up to 5 sessions of therapeutic support (in-person or online) with a counsellor or Psychological Practitioner.
- Pause Drop-In: For all students, a space to talk about any worries. Open Mon–Thurs, 11am–5pm (term time). No appointment needed.
- Student Wellbeing Assistants – If you're living in student accommodation, you can receive peer support from our friendly Residence Life Wellbeing Assistants.

Community support
There’s plenty of specialist support available from professional external services:
- Your GP can offer guidance, treatment options, or referrals for mental health support. If you’re unsure how to start the conversation, Mind offers helpful guidance.
- NHS Talking Therapies – Free, self-referral services such as Birmingham Healthy Minds and Living Well Consortium.
- Grounded, Selly Oak – A local café with free wellbeing events with Living Well Consortium on site.
