Welcome back, Birmingham! Your 2025–26 academic year starts here

Welcome (back) to Birmingham! Whether you’re stepping onto campus for the first time or returning for another year, we’re so glad to have you here during our 125th anniversary.  

Campus is buzzing this Welcome Week with plenty of activities – of both the fun and essential kind! – to get you settled in and ready to tackle the academic year ahead. From new societies and wellbeing services to career prep and study support, there is loads to explore this September. And yes, there are still freebies! 

What you need to know (before the fun begins) 

  • Complete online registration 
    Even if you did it last year, you need to register at the start of each year. It’s a quick but essential to do; register online here

  • Collect your ID (for new students) 
    If you’re a new student who didn’t receive you ID card in the post, you can collect it from the Welcome Registration Marquee (near the Main Library). 

  • Right to Study Check (for new international students) 
    All new international students need to book an appointment in the Welcome Registration Marquee to complete their Right to Study check. This must be done before you can collect your Student ID Card. 

  • Check your timetable 
    Your teaching schedule is available via the MyUoB app. For any questions about your timetable, contact your School directly. 

  • Find your way around 
    Whether you’re completely new to campus or you’re in a new building this year, don’t get lost — use the UoB Campus Map app

  • Check your email 
    Make sure to keep checking your university email for important information from your Student Communications Team and your College. The Brum Bulletin will return on 1 October 2025 with the low down on key news, events and free giveaways! 

  • Consent Matters 
    All students need to complete the new Consent Matters course on Canvas — promoting healthy relationships, boundaries, and respect. Login to Canvas to get started

 

What’s on during Welcome 

We’ve been busy over the summer planning a Welcome Week that’s packed with fun activities and useful sessions to help you make the most of the year ahead. For more information on anything listed below, view the Welcome events page

  • Fairs galore!  
    Welcome Fair, Societies Fair, Sports Fair, MedSoc Fair… Meet support teams and societies, grab freebies, and find out about everything UoB has to offer. 

  • College Welcomes (for new students) 
    Colleges are hosting welcome talks for new students in the Great Hall (and online). Missed the email invite? Check out the What’s On? page.  

  • Sports tasters 
    Considering picking up a sport this year? Sport & Fitness are hosting several taster sessions so you can try something new before you sign up. 

  • Academic Skills Centre workshops 
    The Academic Skills Centre are running a series of useful sessions to help you get a head start on your degree this year – from making the most of library resources to how to best use AI. 

  • Student Community Hub 
    The marquee by Old Joe is hosting a range of low-key activities so you can chill, have fun and connect with others this Welcome Week. Support staff from Careers Network, Multifaith Chaplaincy and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion will also be available to chat to. 

  • Welcome Bingo 
    Pick up a Welcome Bingo card from the Student Community Hub to play and be in with a chance of winning limited edition 125 merch! 

  • 125 Photo Competition 
    Snap your best campus moments and enter to win an Instax camera!

  • UB Heard – 24/7 confidential listening service for emotional and mental health support. 

  • UB Sport Wellness Service – Free support in exercise, nutrition, and meditation for students facing psychological challenges. 

  • Safezone App – Your personal safety companion on campus and in accommodation. 

  • Pause@Uni – Drop-in sessions and social groups for ALL students. 

  • Careers Network – Work experience, CV help, interview prep, and more.
