College of Medicine and Health (CMH) Wellbeing Officers

The CMH Student Wellbeing Team provides support for any student of the College of Medicine and Health (including Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught and Post Graduate Research).

Our experienced staff are able to help students to work through issues that they may be facing and to identify possible further support options and ways to resolve issues where possible, the team work on a model of empowering and enabling students to support their own progress through problems wherever they can. 

We work on proactive and preventative measures to support the student experience within the College and wider University. The team are also able to provide advice and guidance to students and staff on a variety of University processes and regulations.

Whilst all our Wellbeing Officers are highly trained, we understand that you may prefer to speak with someone who shares characteristics with you. Whilst we may not be able to accommodate all requests, we recommend you contact cmh-studentwellbeing@contacts.bham.ac.uk in the first instance to discuss this further

Extenuating Circumstances, Extensions and Deferrals

What do I need to do before I apply?

Before applying, we strongly encourage students to:

1. Read the University's Guidance on Extensions and Extenuating Circumstances.

2. Collect and gather any required evidence to support your application.

3. Check the module and assessment information on Canvas, this includes the correct module code and title - you will need this for your application.

4. Check the specific deadlines for when you need to have submitted your request and evidence. 

How do I apply?

The form will ask you to:

1. Provide your student details - please ensure you take care in accurately entering all the correct details including your student ID number and your student email address.

2. Summarise your circumstances - please provide a description of the circumstances, how they have impacted you and your assessments, and any other relevant details.

3. Provide your assessment details - please ensure that you accurately select your assessment type.

4. If required, attach your evidence. If you have additional evidence which is not ready to upload on the form, you will be able to email this separately to the wellbeing team.

Evidence

If your request requires evidence to support it, you must ensure the following:

1. All evidence must be from a third party.

2. Evidence must align with your circumstances, including the date/period of your circumstances.

3. If the evidence is written in a language other than English, you must also supply an official translated copy.

4. Please do not provide photo of injuries, videos of events or any graphic content as evidence.
