Introduction to Academic Practice for Doctoral Researchers (IAPDR)

The Introduction to Academic Practice for Doctoral Researchers is an accredited 20 credit M-Level module for doctoral researchers who teach, which awards Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy upon successful completion.

Beacon Scheme

Suitable for: all staff employed by the University (academic or professional services) who are teaching and/or support learning and wish to gain recognition for their professional practice.

The University of Birmingham Beacon Professional Recognition scheme provides the opportunity to become an Associate Fellow, Fellow or Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). The University is accredited by Advance HE to award Fellowships to eligible staff in recognition of their continuing success in teaching and supporting learning.

Although you will find that these options have things in common, and both lead to AFHEA*, there are major differences for example in entry requirements, format, learning experience, and assessment.  This page will help you decide which is most suitable for you.
