About
High performance computing enables and enhances great research, which the University of Birmingham provides through BEAR. The PGR BEAR Conference is THE venue for any and all research students to present work which BEAR has made possible.
Do you need to store big datasets and share them with your collaborators across the university via BEAR RDS and DataShare? Have BlueBEAR's GPU nodes helped with a machine learning project? Maybe you've used BEAR Cloud to run interactive work that's too tough for your laptop? That sounds super interesting, and we want to hear about it!
We are also very excited to welcome a selection of invited speakers who are leaders in their research fields, from multiple disciplines both within and beyond the university. They will tell us about their fascinating state-of-the-art works (see Keynote Speakers) and will be on-hand to answer your questions in interactive discussions and Q&A sessions.
Why should I enter?
This is a unique opportunity to raise your research profile and engage a public audience. The committee challenges you to consider your research and how it can be creatively captured and communicated to a non-specialist audience.
The BEAR PGR Conference is a friendly and welcoming event where you can:
- present your research results with a talk or poster in a relaxed environment
- meet other postgraduate researchers from different groups
- learn how innovative research techniques are being used across various research fields.
We even have some great prizes on offer for the best contributions!
Prizes
We are very pleased to be able to present prizes to our winners, thanks to the generous contributions of our sponsor, OCF.
The best student talk and the best student poster will each win a Lenovo Tablet!
The best student talk will be selected by our panel of invited speakers and academic committee members. The best student poster will be voted for by all the attendees at the conference.

Please submit a short abstract describing the work you want to present, either as a talk or poster, at the link below. If you don’t want to present but still wish to attend, then fill in only the registration details at the link below.
