About Security Services
Your Security team are here to offer help, support and advice 24 hours a day, all year round.
Security are here for students, staff and the local community, to make us all safer. We do that in many ways, from responding to situations and patrolling the campus to managing vehicle barriers and planning ahead for emergencies.
Crime prevention is a vital part of our work: we’d much rather prevent a crime than respond to one. That’s why we offer lots of services to help you stay safe, from securing your bike and your home to guidance for when you’re out and about. We also rely on you as a community to help us achieve a safer campus, by reporting it when you see something that’s not right.
We want everyone’s experience here at the University of Birmingham to be a positive one. Please help us make this a reality.
Who we are
The Security team is made up of 48 licensed Security Officers, who are all well trained and experienced with a range of situations. You’ll recognise us out and about: our jackets will say we’re with University of Birmingham Security, and sometimes we might be wearing high-visibility jackets too.
We work closely with other emergency services whenever that’s needed. Campus also has its own Police Officer, based in the UBSafe Hub in University Centre, and four Police Community Support Officers.
Where to find us
The Security Office is staffed 24/7 and monitors CCTV across campus. Find us at the rear of the Aston Webb Building in B Block courtyard, next to the Great Hall, just off Ring Road South.
Find us on the campus map
The UBSafe Hub is home to the West Midlands Police Officer assigned to campus, and the Crime Prevention Coordinator. Find the Hub in University Centre, next to the food court and Spar.
Due to the sensitive topics that are discussed within the office, we do not have an open-door policy.
Please book an appointment to speak to us. Appointments are available every day.
