Awards and grants

Dr S Bakalis, School of Chemical Engineering, was awarded £381,660 from the Technology Strategy Board for the project, Reduced Energy Instant Coffee.

Dr Z Schnepp, School of Chemistry, was awarded £78,125 from the Commission of the European Communities for the project, FP7_CIG-SUSNANO: Sustainable Nanocomposites for Photocatalysis.

Professor J Bridgeman, School of Civil Engineering, was awarded £180,690 from the Commission of the European Communities for the project, FP7 MC IEF: Fluorescence-Based Optimisation of Sewage Treatment.

Dr P Tino, School of Computer Science, was awarded £332,275 from the Engineering & Physical Science Research Council for the project, Personalised Medicine through Learning in the Model Space.

Dr Dan Hefetz, School of Mathematics, was awarded £122,997 from the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council for the project, Robustness of properties of random and pseudo-random graphs.

Professor R M Harrison, School of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded £185,087 from the Commission of the European Communities for the project, FP7_ERC_FASTER.

Professor C L Davis, School of Metallurgy and Materials, was awarded £304,271 from the Engineering & Physical Science Research Council for the project, ASAP - Advanced electromagnetic Sensors for Assessing Property scatter in high value steels.

Dr V Boyer, School of Physics and Astronomy, was awarded £368,985 from the Commission of the European Communities for the project, FP7_COLLAB_PROACTIVE MATTERWAVE.

Dr Peter Gardner, Reader in Microwave Engineering in the School of EECE, has been elected to the status of Fellow of the Institution of Engineering (FIET), in recognition of sustained achievements within the profession.

Frank Zhou, PhD student from the School of Metallurgy and Materials, was awarded the Guest Keen & Nettlefolds PG Scholarship.
