Collaborative Teaching Laboratory



The Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL) which is now complete, facilitates the teaching of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects and enables enhanced collaborative and interdisciplinary training and engagement. The building provides multifunctional labs suitable for subject-specific and cross-disciplinary teaching and team working.

Key Features:

High specification equipment and modern technologies to support independent learning, including:

  • Dry, Wet and Computer Laboratories
  • More than one-thousand square metres of informal learning spaces

The building welcomed its first students in September 2019.


National Buried Infrastructure Facility (NBIF)


The National Buried Infrastructure Facility (NBIF) consists of a new state-of-the-art building housing a 25m x 10m x 5m deep test pit for testing buried infrastructure systems, pipeline and small-scale structural testing rigs, material characterisation facilities, material storage and test assembly areas, and a visualisation suite and knowledge transfer centre.

Frankland Building

Frankland Building Academic Office

The newly-refurbished Frankland building has helped transform staff and student experience by providing a range of facilities including:

  • A relocated centre for music practice, rehearsal and professional recording
  • A new home for English language and Applied Linguistics (ELAL)
  • Further office space for the Law school
  • Quiet study space for CAL doctoral students

The building reopened at the start of term in September 2019.

The former Harding Law Library was refurbished to create:

  • A greatly enhanced and re-planned student study space
  • 8 new group study rooms
  • A new specialist moot room
  • A simultaneous interpretation suite

The building reopened during the Autumn Term in 2017.

Aston Webb B Block Refurbishment

Aston WebbThe refurbishment of Aston Webb B block is delivering a range of sector-leading learning spaces - bringing it back into student use as part of a wider project to advance the regeneration of our heritage buildings within and surrounding the Aston-Webb semi-circle.

Business School Extension


An extension to the grade II listed University House was completed in September 2019. The four-storey building enabled the Business School to consolidate all its non-teaching activity onto one site, and provide the extra capacity required to be able to recruit additional high quality academic staff to support a significant growth in student numbers.

BS1The extension provides 152 office spaces for academic and professional services staff, together with social and meeting space. A programme of internal refurbishment of the existing building was undertaken to improve student facilities, including café, study space and welfare support.
