Important travel and parking information – June and July 2014

University of Birmingham Open Days

The University will be holding its annual Open Days on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 June. Open Day is a core recruitment activity for the University and will bring a large number of prospective students to the campus each day. As a result, there will be increased traffic in and around campus and further pressure on parking.

Friday 27 and Saturday 28 June; spaces available to staff in North East car park and Pritchatts Road car park will be limited to accommodate visitor parking.  In addition, we will be operating ‘park and ride’ facilities on King Edward’s School playing fields and the Selly Oak Hospital site for our visitors to further relieve congestion and parking problems.

Your cooperation and patience is appreciated. Please use an alternative mode of transport on these days where possible.

Birmingham UCAS Higher Education Convention

The University is hosting the Birmingham UCAS Higher Education Convention on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 July.  This will bring over 16,000 sixth form students from 200 schools/colleges and 220 exhibitors from other universities and related organisations onto campus. As a result, there will be increased traffic in and around the campus and pressure on parking. 

Parking will NOT be available to staff/students/visitors in the following locations at the following times:

• Munrow Car Park from 06.00 on Wednesday 2 July to 16.00 on Friday 4 July – this will be closed for delivery companies to access the venue with articulated lorries prior to the event and for exhibitor parking.

From 06.00 on Thursday 3 July until 16.00 on Friday 4 July, the following areas will be used by coaches to drop off and collect visiting school groups:

• Ring road between the Barber Institute and the back of the library
• Parking spaces at the back of the library
• Parking spaces between the Arts Building and the library  

Delays on the Bristol Road and on Edgbaston Park Road are expected and staff who drive in may wish to consider using an alternative form of transport on these days.
