Invoices explained

Here you'll find information about your tuition fee invoice - including what to do if you think your invoice is incorrect; liability for withdrawal or leave of absence; and who to contact with any accommodation fee invoicing queries.

Tuition fee invoicing

Your tuition fee is quoted in the offer letter you received from the University of Birmingham.

After you have registered, you will receive an invoice addressed to you. This confirms your tuition fee and the date it is due to be paid by. We start issuing invoices to students in September of the new academic session.

The invoice shows the full tuition fee – it does not show any funding, fee waiver, scholarship or payments already made. No updated invoice will be sent showing this.

You are responsible for making sure your tuition fee invoice is paid. If you do not pay, an exclusion hold could be applied to your record.

Please make all payments before the due date shown on your invoice. Make sure you allow for any bank closures or other reasons you may not be able to make payment on time.

My tuition fee invoice is incorrect

Your invoice shows your tuition fee in full. If you have already paid a deposit or part of your tuition fee, please deduct this from your invoice amount and pay the balance.

If you get an award, discount or scholarship towards your fee, your School will contact the Finance team to request an adjustment to your invoice. If this isn’t for 100% of your fee, you need to pay the balance.

If you believe you have been charged incorrectly, contact the relevant team:

Placement or year abroad fee invoicing

You will still receive a tuition fee invoice for a non-placement or year abroad fee. When your School notifies Registry that you will be on a placement or year abroad, we’ll issue a credit note and a new invoice for the reduced fee, if applicable.

Tuition fee liability: Withdrawal or leave of absence

If you withdraw from your programme of study, you still have to pay your tuition fees. However, the date of your withdrawal and the type of programme will affect the amount of tuition fee that you will be charged.
