Celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week at UoB

This year, the University of Birmingham is collaborating with NatWest Entrepreneurship to bring you a series of events, opportunities and the chance to win £10,000 in the NatWest #GEW10K Challenge. Join with us to celebrate innovation around the University of Birmingham, create your own ideas and get help from the B-Enterprising Start-Up team to grow your existing ideas. Your chance to win £10,000 from a 60 pitch!

NatWest #GEW10K challenge

NatWest Entrepreneurship will be running hundreds of free virtual pitching workshops throughout Global Entrepreneurship Week, helping thousands of people to structure, write and deliver a killer 60-second pitch, all culminating in a UK wide pitching competition with one winner taking home £10,000 to develop their business as well as 6 months free coaching for them and 4 runners up.

NatWest Entrepreneurship are running a workshop exclusive to University of Birmingham students to support the #GEW10KChallenge and 5 UoB pitches will be submitted into the national competition. Read through the steps below to enter:

Step 1 - Attend the pitching workshop

University of Birmingham students must attend the pitch session to enter the #GEW10K Challenge. This session is designed to help you create a 60 second pitch in any situation and will give you tips to create your challenge pitch.

How to pitch anything (#GEW10K Challenge) - Wednesday 18 November 2020 (15:00 - 16:00)

A recording of the above session will be available on the B Start-Up Canvas course from Thursday 19 November.

Step 2 - Create your 60 second pitch

Write a 60-second pitch for your business or business idea and upload it to YouTube.

Step 3 - Submit your aplication to UoB

Once you have created your video you can complete our application form (including your video link) and submit your entry. Deadline for entering your #GEW10K Challenge video is Monday 30 November 2020.


Step 4 - National competition

The University of Birmingham will submit the top 5 video entries into the national competition for a chance to win £10,000. 

NatWest Entrepreneurship will review all #GEW10K Challenge entries submitted and shortlist 25 national entries into the Grand Final Event. All entrants will be notified, successful or otherwise by 10 January 2021.

The shortlisted 25 individuals will be invited to pitch ‘live’ (via Zoom) at our Grand Final in early February in front of an expert judging panel, for a shot at one of 5 prizes:

  • 1 x winner of £10,000 and 6 months free coaching
  • 4 x runners up will receive 6 months free coaching

Enter the NatWest Business Builder workshop: How to pitch anything (#GEW10K Challenge) - 15:00 - 16:00
Join the NatWest Business Builder team and find out how to write your very own short presentation to sell yourself or your idea. This event also invites you to enter the £10,000 #GEW10K Challenge.

UoB Start-Up society speaker event: Webinar HausBots - 17:00 - 18:00
HausBots is a tech start-up company who create wall-climbing robots to carry out exterior building jobs. CEO and co-founder Jack Hornes will be speaking about this unique idea, the future vision and life balancing three different start-up ideas. This event is hosted by the Start-Up society.

Thursday 19 November

Start-Up Visa workshop - 10:00 - 12:00
This Start-up Visa workshop is designed for International students who are considering the option of starting a business in the UK after graduation.

Friday 20 November

NatWest Business Builder workshop: The Business Model Canvas - 14:00 - 15:30
The Business Model Canvas is a really useful start-up template to help you see your goals, challenges and opportunities clearly in one place. Find out how this template can help you and get tips to help start your business idea.
