Tips and insights from students and recent graduates who have participated in TWM progression coaching Making Choices.
You are not defined by a job
- It’s okay if your first job isn't your top choice, you can still draw from the experience
Weigh up the benefits and negatives
- With so many choices out there, take the time to make a reasoned decision
Organise your thoughts
- What are your options?
- Prioritise your career goals and plan your approach e.g. mindmapping
Get a second opinion
- Ask a family member/friend
- Seek a mentor
- Book a careers advice appointment to help you with your decision
Embrace challenges
- Be curious and positive
- Try new things
- Anything is possible with hard work and determination!
Keep your development in mind
- What do you want to achieve? Be objective
- Will this opportunity help you get there?
- What do you need to work on towards future ambitions?
Consider the work culture and dynamic
- Find out the values, behaviours, and goals of the organisation
- When on work experience, how does the team work together?
- Reflect on this and consider if that's what you stand for
