HEFi Newsletter: September 2023

New Academic Year, New Digital Tools

HEFi are pleased to introduce three new digital tools that will enhance teaching and learning this year.

Canvas Enhanced Assignments: Streamlined Student access to Feedback

From September 18th, this update improves the student assignment experience, providing a more user-friendly interface for submissions and feedback. For staff there are no changes to assignment setup or marking process.

For more details, see our guidance pages.

New Canvas Search Tool: Find Content Efficiently

Effortlessly search courses and find content promptly with a new search box on every Canvas screen. Students can use the tool to explore available content in their courses.

For more information, see our new Canvas Search guidance pages.

Padlet: Perfecting the art of collaboration

From September, Padlet will be available for your teaching. Create dynamic virtual bulletin boards to encourage active participation among your students.

For more information of Padlet’s capabilities, how to access the institutional licence, and how to import existing Padlet boards into the institutional account, see our new Padlet guidance pages.

Introduction to Teaching and Supporting Learning (ITSL)

Our Introduction to Teaching and Supporting Learning (ITSL) module has been redesigned to be delivered in a primarily self-paced, online modality from the 2023/24 academic year onwards.

Our new structure will offer increased flexibility to balance the requirements of ITSL alongside busy work periods, particularly term-time. The ITSL module will remain a pre-requisite for those wishing to study on the PGCHE programme and progress onto the Developing and Enhancing Your Professional Practice (DEYPP) module. This will result in a few changes to our admissions processes for both ITSL and DEYPP, including separate processes for both modules.

For information on the new structure of ITSL and to look at dates for completion, take a look at the ITSL webpage and direct any questions to the module lead, Jamie Morris.
