Accessing BIRMS

In adherance to our Data Protection obligations, BIRMS access is strictly controlled and is granted only to members of staff who need to use BIRMS to fulfill the responsibilities of their role. Access to the various applications are further controlled at department level using security permissions for every page and critical function.

Requesting BIRMS and BOXI access

Your line manager will organise for a BIRMS/BOXI access request to be submitted to IT Services by one of the Security Managers within your department or school. Once granted, your access will be confirmed to you, and your departmental Security Manager will create your security profile.

Please note that you will only be able to access BIRMS if you also have BOXI access - your line manager can raise a BOXI access request for you via the IT Service Desk if necessary. The current access request process covers both BIRMS and BOXI.

Adding the my.bham portal channel

To confirm that your BIRMS access has been successfully granted, you will be required to add the BIRMS channel in your my.bham portal channel prior to your first use of the system. On subsequent visits, the channel will already be displayed in your portal, providing a link into BIRMS.

Data Protection Act statement

New BIRMS users are required to submit a signed DPA statement prior to their first use of the system. A copy of the statement will be sent to you with your access confirmation, and is also accessible via the link below.
