Widening participation and access
The University is committed to widening participation and improving access to higher education for students from under-represented backgrounds. Student EDI works alongside colleagues across the University to support this work, helping to ensure that fairness, opportunity and inclusive practice are embedded across the student journey.
This includes oversight of targeted initiatives such as Birmingham Scholars, which supports eligible students through access, transition and success at university.

Codes of Practice, Policies and Guidance
The University has established codes of practice and expectations that guide academic and professional conduct across the student experience. These frameworks support fairness, transparency and consistency in areas such as assessment, student conduct and academic standards.
They also set out expectations relating to religious observance, helping to ensure that students are able to practise their faith or belief within the context of academic requirements, University regulations and the rights of others.
Student EDI works alongside colleagues to support inclusive application of these frameworks and to help ensure that the needs of a diverse student body are considered in policy and practice.
