Tom had been nominated for a number of awards categories by staff, students and his fellow Reps. Receiving nominations from students and Reps in other year groups as well as his own, he was recognised for the contribution he made to supporting other Reps who were new to their role, and for providing help and support to students across his programme. He was commended by students for the outstanding effort he made to gauge student feedback. Staff praised him for his professionalism, enthusiasm to be involved and have an impact beyond his own degree programme -through active participation in SSC meetings- and positive and humble attitude. His additional contributions include enhancing the support available to first year students through the co-design of a mentoring scheme and working as part of a team to achieve an outstanding response rate for the NSS.

“Winning the award for "Outstanding Contribution" as a LES Student Representative was a very pleasant surprise and I am extremely grateful to all those students and staff members at the University of Birmingham who nominated and supported me. To say I enjoyed my role as a Student Representative during the final 2 years of my student life is an understatement and I would recommend the role to anyone who shares an interest in getting to know their peers, understanding their needs, concerns and pleasures within student life and then communicating these thoughts and opinions with bodies of the University to improve the experience of students. If you are someone who wishes to make a difference, be it in present day or in the near future, then you should definitely consider becoming an LES Student Representative at the University of Birmingham. Not only did it improve my student life... it improved me.”
