Things to remember before arriving on campus

We’re back for another year of study, fun and everything in between

As always, the start of another year of study can be a busy time when finding your feet again, so we’ve pulled together a list of things to remember to help you stay on top of things.

Welcome Week

Welcome Week marks week zero of the academic year and kicks off your year in style from Monday 23 until Friday 27 September.

Everyone is moving in at various points ahead of term starting and we have a whole programme of events welcoming new students for the first time, but also welcoming back our returners.

Check out what’s on and plan your week ahead.

Term times

Following Welcome week, the academic term starts officially on Monday 30 September. You can find your full-term dates below:

  • Autumn Term: 30 September – 13 December 2024

  • Spring Term: 13 January – 4 April 2025

  • Summer Term: 5 May – 27 June 2025 (including UoB Xtra)

The other notable date is the 30 June 2025. This marks the start of the Summer Vacation Period for our undergraduates, and the start of our postgraduate taught students' summer research period.

Please note: the supplementary exam period takes place during the summer vacation period.

Staying up to date with what’s happening

You can keep in touch with everything that is going on during your time with us through a mix of channels. The ones that we recommend you keep an eye on are:

  • Brum Bulletin – your fortnightly student e-newsletter packed full of news, events, opportunities and competitions

  • University Instagram and TikTok - follow us @UniBirmingham and see if you can spot our Student Content Shapers on campus

  • MyUoB notifications (app) - don’t forget to download this if you haven’t already

Time to Talk?

Your mental health and wellbeing is one of our top priorities. So firstly, remember to prioritise your physical health by registering with a GP

Our Time to Talk? Campaign has a brand-new look and focuses on directing you to the service right for you. Whether you need to take a Pause, check in with someone in your College or speak to someone at any time of the day with UB Heard... there is something available for you.

If you or someone you know needs more urgent services there are also services available too.

UoBe Ready

Exams and assessments are a large part of your student life, and we want to help you feel as prepared as possible. Which is where UoBe Ready kicks in...

In response to your student feedback, we’ve been working hard to make study and assessment resources more visible to students and will be sharing these throughout the year! You can find study spaces, student advice, library resources and support from the Academic Skills Centre all in one place.

Finally, remember whilst there’s lots going on, you always come first! So check in with yourself, friends, flat mates, course leads... we’re all here to help you on your journey at university.
