It was the first day and I really liked that we had people coming from the industry, people who work, people who lead start-ups and they share their experiences, their knowledge, their tips. This is very, very useful for us because I’m not sure that I could meet them anywhere else but here: the Masters Consultancy Challenge.

What I think is that the Masters Consultancy Challenge is a serious workshop and also a competition that involves consulting real case studies within the real industry, and in practice with a real company. So the reason I joined this is because I would like to pursue a career involving technology consulting.

I’ve kind of evaluated myself - of course I know what I want - but I am trying to align the skills I have and coming up with a strategy to succeed. I wanted to know more about the consultancy business and to improve my skills and to get new skills. So I, as I said, I have objectives, I have a plan and I know that I need to acquire certain things to be able to realise that plan. The skills that I need are being addressed during the challenge and critical thinking, effective communication and other things which are being delivered during the challenge are quite useful to me, so it’s something which will build me and improve me as a person.

So many rewarding insights I have gained in the first day. So, for instance, the commercial awareness of the industry. So, it is real practice for me to get to know why it is important to know more about commercial awareness knowledge, and how this will be important to implement during the interview when you encounter the employers. Also I have developed many transferrable skills during the challenge, which I can apply to my future career path.

It’s another great opportunity to meet new people and gain some new knowledge and skills, because every time you meet all these experienced speakers, they let you think about things that you never thought before. I think that it’s all connected - if I think about these things now, they can help me in the future.

I was hoping that I would be able to apply that knowledge, that legal knowledge that I have learnt from my commercial law (Masters), to a real world situation in order to offer solutions on the practical applicability of how things work.

So there’s lots of different parts of it, there’s lots of stuff that it involves - it involves working as a team, it involves learning to digest information, and then produce palpable advice for a professional organisation at the end of it. Within that then there’s loads of stuff. I mean being able to communicate with team mates, being able to receive information and pass it on, being able to come up with new ideas, being a bit creative with it and doing something different - among many others which I am sure that I could go on for a long time about for!

My communication skills and, not only by communicating with my team members, but also when we talk in front of the important employers and panellists - how can we really talk about our ideas and solutions, you know, fluently and logically within a ten minute pitch. That could be a challenge but, yeah, I’m looking forward to it!

And of course I am interested to succeed with this project because we have a really nice prize - a visit to KMPG office - to see how things work on the inside.

I think that it’s aimed at providing insight about the consultancy business and to provide the skills that people need to apply within the workplace. So, during the few days that we’ve taken the challenge, we’ve had tasks that have helped us identify our skills or our strengths; we’ve been prompted to think in a different way, a critical way, and to know what our objectives after studying are and how we plan to implement our objectives after studies. So, during the Consultancy Challenge, I hope that I will be able to reflect on the past, what I’ve achieved in the past, and relate it to the present and be able to come up with a success plan or strategy. So it’s an ongoing thing and I know that I will learn and improve upon my skills during the challenge.
