Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

In line with the University's commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, we at Worklink are committed to ensuring all student casual workers are treated fairly and that they have access to a wide range of opportunities.

What is Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)?

Equality:

That all have equal opportunities and are treated with fairness. That no one is treated unfairly because of ‘protected characteristics’ such as sex, age, or race.

Diversity:

That our student casual workforce is representative of our student community, that we employ a range of people with different ages, religions, ethnicities, sexualities, people with disabilities, etc.

Inclusion:

That our student casual workers have an inclusive workplace, meaning everyone feels valued at work.

What does Worklink do to ensure we are following the principles of EDI?

When starting, all members of the Worklink team must complete a course in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Recruitment and Selection training. These courses are refreshed every two years to ensure the team have current knowledge of best practice.

As well as this initial training, during 2021/2022, team members will be attending additional training covering topics such as Race Equality. Most recently, a member of our team has taken part in training hosted by the organisation Gendered Intelligence to improve the team’s awareness and understanding of gender diversity.

When you join Worklink as a Casual Worker, or are rehired, you will be asked to complete a Joiners form asking for details regarding your ethnicity/racial group, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender identity etc.

The equality information you provide will not be used in the selection process; it will be used for equality analysis to see whether applicants from a particular background are underrepresented or less successful in job applications, for example.

Though, please remember you do not have to disclose any of this information.

How can you help?

All Casual Workers have a duty to read the policies in place to ensure the safe and legal running of the University. These policies are provided as links in the terms and conditions sent to every worker. EDI is one of these key areas and the Fairness and Diversity Policy outlines the University’s expectations.

Alternative Arrangements:

If you have been invited for an interview or have been successful in a job application and have long term health condition, we ask that you let us know if you require alternative arrangements made for your interview/first day.
