Student groups are a way to get to meet new people outside of your academic cohort who also have the same interests as you. There are over 500 student groups, and if you can’t find a group to match your interests, you can also start your own. The Guild has over 250 societies, community volunteering groups and associations.

Each year the University of Birmingham Music Society provides music-making opportunities for students through a number of ensembles and projects for choirs, orchestras, instrumental ensembles, jazz groups and those wishing to explore music creatively.

Sport and physical activities

Join a sports club at UB Sport, with 55 clubs to choose from, there is a sport for everyone from beginner to competitive level. See what sports club are available at UB Sport

UB Sport also offer drop-in sessions and 10 week courses for a variety of sports, the chance for you to get a taster of a sports before committing.  See what's available through the "try a sprot" scheme.

BUAC Cool running clubs offer Running sessions for people of all abilities and interests.

There are many ways you can get involved with volunteering, including through the Guild of Students, a local charity, the PASS (Peer assisted study scheme) scheme with the Library, or with Winterbourne House and Gardens on campus. Many volunteering opportunities can provide valuable work experience and enhance your CV.
