Want to cycle but lack the confidence? Whether your skills are a little rusty or you're new to travelling on two wheels, we're here to equip you with the know-how to navigate local streets, cycle paths, and campus roads with ease.
We offer courses for University staff and students, led by qualified instructors in environments appropriate to the level of the course.
Courses run from April 2025 to June 2025, and places are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must attend all course dates and there is a small booking fee to ensure good attendance.
Green Course: Learn to Ride and Basic Skills
Ideal for total beginners, this course will teach you how to pedal a bike in an off-road environment, along with essential bike handling skills.
Sessions will take place on the following dates from 5pm – 7pm:
- Tuesday 10 June
- Wednesday 11 June
- Tuesday 17 June
- Wednesday 18 June

Blue Course: Basic Skills and Everyday Bike Skills
Ideal for riders who can pedal, plus those who know how to cycle but haven't for a long time, this course will teach you essential on-road bike handling skills. You'll also learn how to use simple road and junction layouts and respond to common situations when cycling on roads.
The course will take place off-road and on quiet roads on and off campus.
Sessions will take place on the following dates from 5pm – 7pm:

- Wednesday 7 May
- Wednesday 14 May

Yellow Course: Everyday and Advanced Bike Skills
Perfect for seasoned riders who want to brush up on their skills, this course will teach you how to cycle on-road with confidence. You'll learn how to navigate simple and more complex road layouts and junctions, and be able to ride in busy traffic conditions.
The course will take place on both quiet and busier roads on and off campus.
Sessions will take place on the following dates from 5pm – 7pm:
- Wednesday 21 May
- Wednesday 28 May
- Wednesday 4 June

Maintenance classes
Join us on Saturday 8 March or Saturday 15 March for an all-day session that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to keep your bike in great condition. Classes will run from 10am until 4pm on both days and cost £12 for staff and £6 for students. Please note that you only need to attend one session.
