Cycling on and around campus

Cycling is a great way to get out and about in the local area. Not only is it free once you've bought your equipment, but it's also good for your wellbeing and the planet.

It's easy to travel on two wheels at the University. There are thousands of secure lockers across campus, opportunities to improve your skills with expert-led courses, and cycling groups to join. We even have our very own cycle shop, Gear Up, located by the steps of Staff House.

Become a Green Heart Rider

Green Heart Riders is an inclusive cycling club for all members of the University community. Run by volunteers, it aims to make cycling safe, practical and enjoyable for all, providing opportunities to cycle in everyday life, for leisure, and for sport.

Run with support from Cycling UK, there are two club rides a month: ‘steady ride’, which is ideal for newcomers (20 miles) and ‘adventurous ride’, aimed at those who are looking for something more fast paced (35 miles).

Unlike other clubs, there are no minimum speeds and cyclists of all abilities are welcome. Rides are led by qualified ride leaders, and there is always a planned café break to help you refuel.
