You may receive a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) if you park where you shouldn't, don't pay for parking, or are in contravention of the University’s Traffic Regulations.
In some circumstances, you may be issued with a warning. Please don't ignore this. If you don't understand why you've been issued a warning, or believe it's been issued in error, please contact our Car Parking team at carparking@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
What to do if you get a PCN
Starting the day you received your PCN, you will have 28 days to pay your fine. If you pay within 14 days, you'll be charged £30, instead of £60. You can do this online through the First Parking website.
To get started, you will need:
- The PCN reference number (starting with FP)
- Your vehicle registarion number
- A valid credit or debit card
If you do not pay within 28 days, First Parking will send a series of reminder letters to the vehicle's registered address, before passing your details to a debt collection agency.
First Parking is our enforecement partner; they are an approved operator and can therefore obtain vehicle keeper details from the DVLA. Failure to pay may result in court action.
Please note that the University cannot intervene if your PCN debt has been passed to a debt collection agency; you will need to contact the agency directly.

Appealing a PCN
If you have received a PCN and feel that it has been issued unfairly or in error, you have the right to appeal it. You can do this through the First Parking website.
While you have 28 days to appeal a PCN, we recommend you start the process as soon as possible. If you raise an appeal within 14 days of receiving your PCN, and it's subsequently rejected, you will only need to pay £30. You cannot appeal a PCN if you have already paid for it.
