Careers Advice for Postgraduate Researchers

There are many reasons why talking one-to-one with a careers adviser can be useful. It could be that you don't yet have any particular next steps in mind and are looking for some direction. On the other hand, you might have some career ideas but are uncertain about which next steps to take; or, you may be ready to apply for jobs and are looking for some help with your applications or interviews.

Whatever stage you're at, as a current Postgraduate Researcher you have a range of options available to you for one-to-one support and advice.

If you have questions about career issues, career options, or job applications and interviews that are more specific to Postgraduate Researchers, you can contact our PGR Careers Adviser Dr Holly Prescott to arrange a meeting. Please email Holly via careersenquiries@contacts.bham.ac.uk and include 'FTAO PGR Careers Adviser' in the subject of your email. If you would like an application checking or want to arrange a practice interview, please include in your email details of the job for which you are applying (e.g. attach the job description and person specification to your email if possible).

Meeting slots are flexible and can be arranged at a time that suits you (Monday - Friday). Both in-person and virtual meetings are on offer. Virtual appointments are usually run via Zoom; if another platform suits you better, then please do mention this and we will do what we can to accommodate your needs.

These meetings range from general advice and guidance to CV and application advice and practice interviews.

Having booked a meeting, please ensure that you arrive on time; if you are more than 5 minutes late you may need to rebook.
