Duration: 2:05

Careers Network has a team of internship officers linked to different collages who support students in finding work experience, including internships and placements.

Here are some of the top tips for finding work experience.

Make sure you are registered on careers connect, it’s a vacancy database of internships, placements, and graduate jobs. Internship officers regularly upload new opportunities, but employers can also upload roles directly onto the database, so it’s a great place to start your search. This includes the larger corporate employers, but other smaller companies as well. So it really is a one stop shop for internships.

Look at some of the online guides including the resource lists on the website, you’ll find a range of job ports and links to explore. This also includes tips on how to make a speculative application, there is a hidden world of opportunities out there.

Finding some of our internship schemes that are exclusively for students at the University of Birmingham, there are some fantastic opportunities locally and internationally.

See if you can benefit from our work experience bursaries and receive funding to support you cover the costs of any unpaid or low paid work experience in the UK or overseas.

Look out for our work opportunity Wednesday e-newsletters - every Wednesday afternoon you'll receive details about the latest work experience and internship opportunities for that week.

And remember if you still need further support you can email or book an appointment with your internship officer or come along to one of our work experience drop-ins, we can go through how best to support you in finding an opportunity.
