Student Parking


Students on campusParking availabilty for students at the University of Birmingham is extremely limited and therefore we ask that students travel to campus via other means. If you feel that bringing your car is absolutely your only option then you can apply for a student permit but will only be eligible if you match one or more of the criteria as set out below.

Car Parking arrangements have changed as of 1st April 2024

Daily parking: The daily car parking charge for student permit holders is now £2.50 per day,  payment on arrival.  

Chargeable Period:  Charges are applicable from 08:00am  -  18:00pm Monday to Sunday including Bank Holidays and UoB closed days.

Are you eligible?

Before applying, please read the criteria below carefully. You will only be eligible if one or more of the following applies to you:

  • You are a Blue Badge holder (a copy of both sides must be submitted with your application). If you are not a blue badge holder, but have a disability or medical reason for wanting to apply, you will need to meet with the Student Disability Service in order for them to send us a referral for your parking permit.
  • Your term time address is over 10 miles away from the University - The address given on your application must match the term time address registered with Student Services and therefore showing on your student record. Applications will not be processed if either the addresses don't match or the Term Time address section of your student record is left blank, this section must be completed for your application to be considered). To complete your term time address enter the my.bham portal; my.programme page; Register; at the bottom left of the page your will find Address Details, select and click the down arrow to choose Term Time address type, complete your term time address and submit. Proof of address may be requested at any time.
  • You have dependents of primary school age (11 or under) who live with you at your term time address and that address is over 3 miles away from the University. Students with dependent children who live within a 3 mile radius will not be granted a permit. Please upload a copy of your childs birth certificate or a child benefit letter to support your application. Other documents may be accepted but must have both yours and the child's name and DOB on them. 
  • You are are registered as a carer to disabled family members at their permanent home address 
    Please upload documentation that supports your application. Accepted documents include carer's registration letter, Carer's Allowance letter and a GP letter.

How do I pay?

Student permit holders can park for £2.50 per day. Payment can be made by using coins in the payment machines or with a credit/debit card via the RingGo mobile app (Edgbaston campus location code 15690). If you do not have the facility to use the app, payment via RingGo can also be made using the following methods:

Where can I park?

Student parking permits are valid in the following areas:

North East Multi Storey (Floors 1-5) Ground floor is reserved for Hotel guests only - Post code B15 2SA

Pritchatts Park Village - Post code B15 2QU

The Vale site and Tennis Courts Residential sites - Post code B15 3SZ

Selly Oak Campus (in pay & display areas only)  -  RingGo location code 15699 - Post code B29 6QW

If your application is declined, there are other options available to you:

  • Any UoB student may apply for Out of Hours parking, free of charge.  Out of Hours access is free between 6pm and midnight Monday-Sunday.  If you wish to apply, please email your ID number and vehicle registration number to carparking@contacts.bham.ac.uk so that we can allow your ID card to operate campus barriers during those times.
  • Non-permit holders can access the campus at weekends. This is chargeable at a flat rate of £2.50 per day.
