Restoring mobility through innovation and compassion

At Icarus Prosthetics, we believe that access to mobility is a fundamental human right — not a privilege determined by income, geography, or circumstance. As a nonprofit organisation, our mission is to make high-quality prosthetic care accessible to everyone, everywhere. Through cutting-edge 3D printing technology, open-source design, and global collaboration, we create custom prosthetic limbs that are provided completely free of charge to individuals in need.

Our Story

Around the world, millions of people are living without the prosthetic care they need. Traditional prosthetics are often prohibitively expensive, costing thousands of dollars, and are typically manufactured in centralised facilities far from those who need them most. For many, this means long waiting times, limited access to medical professionals, and — too often — a lifetime of immobility and social exclusion.

We founded Icarus Prosthetics to change that. Our approach removes these barriers by combining innovative technology with community-driven collaboration. We believe no one should be denied the chance to live a full and active life simply because of where they were born or how much they earn.

Our process begins with 3D printing — technologies that allow us to design and produce prosthetics that are affordable, custom-fitted, and easy to replicate. By using open-source designs, we ensure that our solutions can be freely accessed, improved, and adapted by anyone, anywhere. This approach not only drives innovation but also fosters a spirit of shared knowledge and collective progress.

We partner with local hospitals, rehabilitation centres, and universities to build production hubs in the regions we serve. These hubs are more than manufacturing sites — they are learning environments where local engineers, healthcare professionals, and volunteers gain hands-on experience in digital fabrication, design, and prosthetic fitting. In this way, we create sustainable systems that empower communities long after our initial involvement.

Next Phase

We envision a world where prosthetic care is accessible, affordable, and locally available to anyone who needs it. A world where innovation serves people first — not profit. A world where losing a limb does not mean losing independence, dignity, or hope.

The next phase for Icarus Prosthetics is focused on moving from concept to impact. With our first prototype currently in development, the goal is to refine the design through user feedback, build a network of local and international partners, and begin distributing prosthetics to those in need—starting with small-scale trials and expanding from there.

From the Elevate programme, I hope to gain the guidance, mentorship, and resources needed to turn this vision into a sustainable, scalable nonprofit. I’m especially keen to develop the business infrastructure—legal, financial, and operational—and connect with likeminded innovators and experts who can help shape the long-term impact of Icarus Prosthetics. Elevate offers a unique environment that I have previously worked in and learned a significant amount from.

Get Involved

As a nonprofit, Icarus Prosthetics is not seeking traditional investors, but we are actively looking for funding partners, donors, and grant support to help bring our mission to life.

To kickstart our operations, we’re currently seeking £5,000–£7,000 in initial funding.
