VeeRent

A peer-to-peer fashion rental platform.

Founder(s) name: Shruti Veeranki

Company Name: VeeRent

Industry Sector: Fashion, Circular economy, Sustainability, Technology, E-commerce, Peer-to-peer platforms, Social enterprise

Our Brand/Product: VeeRent is a peer-to-peer fashion rental platform that allows individuals to rent and lend clothing — from everyday fashion to culturally specific occasion-wear. Users can upload outfits for free and earn money when others rent them. VeeRent helps people save money, access variety without owning, and reduces fashion waste, creating a more inclusive and sustainable way to dress for any event or season.

Our Story: The idea for VeeRent came from a personal experience. I was preparing for my cousin’s wedding in India and needed multiple outfits that I would only wear once. I realised how common this problem is, especially in cultural communities, where beautiful clothing often gets worn once and then stored away.

That insight stayed with me, and I began to explore it seriously during my final year of university, where I focused my dissertation on fashion sustainability and user-centred design. I’ve since personally invested over £6,300 into developing the MVP, completed the front-end, and I’m now finalising the back-end development. I’ve built a social presence (mainly on TikTok), engaged with potential users, and was recently shortlisted in a pitch competition, all while working full-time on a graduate scheme.

Next Phase: The next phase is to complete the MVP and launch VeeRent within university and cultural communities, validating product-market fit and generating early traction. I’ll focus on onboarding both renters and lenders, refining platform features, and gathering real-world feedback.

From Elevate, I’m hoping to gain:

  • Legal and operational guidance for running a peer-to-peer platform
  • Mentorship to support strategic decision-making
  • A network of fellow founders for shared learning
  • Access to university partnerships and event opportunities to grow the user base
  • Support in preparing for investment once traction begins

I’ve brought this idea as far as I can alone — now I need the right environment to launch and grow it sustainably.

Get Involved: I’m currently looking for £10,000 in non-dilutive funding to:

  • Finalise the MVP (back-end development and testing)
  • Launch the platform and acquire users
  • Cover initial legal, insurance, and marketing costs

To date, I’ve already invested £6,300 of my own money into development and branding. In the future, once early traction is proven, I plan to seek equity investment (e.g. pre-seed or angel) to help scale the platform, build a team, and expand into additional markets.
