Introduction - Careers Network Mentoring Scheme

Hi, my name is Nicole and I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2018with a Masters degree in Mechanical and Materials Engineering. I’m currently working as a Senior Engineer at Frazer-Nash Consultancy. My work is predominantly in the nuclear and energy generation sectors. My day to day role typically involves running simulations, writing code for data processing and managing client relationships.

Mentoring Support - Careers Network Mentoring Scheme

I can support students and graduates through the careers network mentoring scheme by offering them an insight into what the role of an engineer is like and to support them with potential job applications. I have most likely had similar experiences during my time at University and I can offer them guidance from the perspective of someone who has been in their shoes and has the benefit of hindsight. It is also useful to have someone other than friends and family to discuss any career plans with.

Top Tip for Industry - Careers Network Mentoring Scheme

My top tip for entering the industry is to keep your mind open to opportunities which you may not have originally thought were ideal for you. Engineering graduates have so many transferable skills and can easily pick up something new the career path that you eventually decide to go down may not have even crossed your mind at University.
