Hi my name is Tom Hemmings, I'm an associate marketing director for a global professional services firm. I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2011 with an Undergraduate degree in Geography and a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Town Planning. After a brief career in planning as a graduate planner straight out of uni, I quickly realised that my skills and my future lay elsewhere and embarked on a career in sales, marketing and communications.

My top tips for getting into a career in marketing are to be curious and open-minded. There's no predetermined career path in this industry and the scope for specialization is huge so figure out which areas that you like, which areas that you're interested in and which areas that you're good at and then carve out your own path.
