On all pages Open Graph settings have now been developed so that they use a default set of standards across standard pages with structured content overrides.

Standard pages
og title field will pull in the title of the page
og image will first pull in the thumbnail image. If there isn’t one it will pull in a generic University image pulled in from UoB.MetaData.OpenGraph.DefaultImageUrl in the localisations.
og description: meta description
og:type:- 'website'
og:url: the current page url, unless it is a shadow copy in which case it will provide the master page url
og:locale: 'en-GB'
News pages
og:image: always uses the lead image if present
og:type: 'article'

Stackable tables – making tables mobile friendly

Simple tables can be made stackable by adding the class 'table--accessible_user' to them. To do this editors will need to right click on their table and select ‘Table properties’. In the ‘Style’ field add ‘table--accessible_user’. This will ensure that when on mobile large and complex tables will stack and prevent horizontal scrolling.

Ensuring link text is unique – research section

The ‘News’ tab on the research secondary navigation has been updated to ‘Research News’ this is to ensure compliance to accessibility regulations which state all link text should be unique. Currently this conflicts with the ‘News’ in the top navigation of the site. This required a CSS update to ensure it is optimized for all screen sizes.

Marking navigation as lists – triple links section on course pages and fact file call to action boxes

To improve the experience of those navigating our site using assistive technologies we have made an update so that the triple links section towards the bottom of the course page, and the three buttons within the course fact file section are now marked as a list.

Bug fixes

Removal of two column formatting on course pages

Some course pages were formatting into two columns when a quote feature wasn’t present – this has now been fixed to ensure content remains in one column and is not dependant on a quote feature being present.

Removal of duplicate usage of ID ‘maincontent’ in Research templates

Some research templates used the id ‘maincontent’ twice. ID attributes on a page must be unique otherwise this can cause accessibility issues, amongst other things. In this case the functionality that allows users to ‘Skip to main content’ was broken by this duplication of the ID.

Ensuring headings include text - ‘Our Researchers’ tab

To fix an empty heading which was present when on the ‘Our Researchers’ tab on the Research secondary navigation we have added 'Find a researcher' text in the heading and changed the existing search tab heading of 'Find a researcher' to 'Search by name'.
